This week’s session is all about laying the foundation for consistent, powerful batting. The focus is on developing solid swing mechanics, with particular emphasis on creating an aggressive and committed back swing.
Players will be encouraged to swing with intent, preparing early and getting the bat back high and purposefully. This technical focus will help set up stronger contact points and cleaner shot execution in future sessions.
The goal is to help players feel the rhythm and power of a proper swing, and begin forming the habits that support confident, dynamic batting.
Activity 1: Bat down Drop Feeds (Mid off-Mid on) Alternating Swings
Duration: 5–10 minutes
Repetitions: 20–30 balls
Activity Overview:
In this activity, you'll hit bat-down drop feeds alternately through mid off and mid on, rotating between full swings and check swings. The bat starts in a lowered position, promoting strong contact and a grounded, balanced setup. The alternating swing types help players learn to adjust their intent and body position while still targeting specific gaps on either side of the pitch.

Activity 2: Bat down Throwdowns
Duration: 10–15 minutes
Repetitions: 30–60 balls
Activity Overview:
This activity is designed as a feeling drill to help players develop a strong, aggressive bat lift and natural rhythm in the swing. You’ll face throwdowns while starting with the bat positioned down near the ground. This setup encourages the batter to lift the bat dynamically into their backswing and build fluent movement into their hitting rhythm.
Rather than focusing on the outcome of the shot, the purpose is to feel how the bat moves through the air—encouraging freedom, confidence, and athletic flow in the swing process.

Activity 3: Sidearms Mindset Exploration
Duration: 10–15 minutes
Repetitions: 30–60 balls
Activity Overview:
In this drill, players are challenged to develop an aggressive, attacking mindset. The focus is on thinking forward—committing to hit the ball hard, with intent, especially down the ground.
Players should work on taking the bat away high and aggressively, preparing early with purpose. This drill is about mindset as much as mechanics: think aggressive and react to defend if needed. It’s not about perfect execution—it’s about building intent, presence, and confidence at the crease.
Every player’s version of “aggressive” might look different. This drill allows for that exploration while encouraging full-body engagement and strong rhythm in the swing.

Activity 4: Sidearms Free Batting
Duration: 10–15 minutes
Repetitions: 30–60 balls
Activity Overview:
This is a free exploration drill using sidearm throws. The player has complete freedom to choose their shots based on the line and length of the delivery, aiming to apply everything they've been learning—footwork patterns, swing decisions, and intent.
There is no set target area or swing type. Players are encouraged to experiment, commit to their choices, and focus on executing with confidence and clarity. This is where learning becomes performance—treat it like a game scenario and let your instincts take over.
