In this week’s lesson, players will be challenged to hit using both full swings and check swings in a set pattern. The focus is on helping them recognise and feel the differences in body position, balance, and shot shape between the two swing types.
At this stage, we’re not asking players to decide which swing to use in real time—that decision-making will come later. For now, it’s about building familiarity with the movements, learning how each swing feels, and becoming comfortable transitioning between them.
Keep the environment simple and clear. Encourage players to stay focused on the quality and consistency of each swing type, and don’t worry if it feels unfamiliar at first. This is an essential step in building adaptable, technically aware batters.
🔁 Players should complete the session twice this week to reinforce their learning.
Activity 1: Bat-Down Drop Feeds (Straight) Alternating Swings
Duration: 5–10 minutes
Repetitions: 20–30 balls
Activity Overview:
In this activity, you will hit bat-down drop feeds along the ground straight past the bowler, alternating between a full swing and a check swing. The low bat start encourages early setup and consistent swing mechanics, helping you refine timing, control, and contact through the straight channel. Watch the activity video for a full explanation for completing the task.
Activity 2: Full Swing Drop Feed – Targeting Mid On & Mid Off
Duration: 5–10 minutes
Repetitions: 20–30 balls
Activity Overview:
In this activity, you will hit spin drop feeds along the ground straight back past the bowler, alternating between a full swing and a check swing. The goal is to build rhythm, swing control, and timing while maintaining consistent execution through the straight zone. Watch the activity video for a full explanation for completing the task.
Activity 3: Spin Throws Pull shots
Duration: 10–20 minutes
Repetitions: 30–60 balls
In this activity, you will face spin throws and focus on playing pull shots through the midwicket region. The emphasis is on picking up the length early, staying balanced, and using quick hands to control the shot along the ground. Watch the activity video for a full explanation on how to complete the task.
Activity 4: Underarm Spin Throws (Straight) Alternating Swings
Duration: 10–15 minutes
Repetitions: 30–60 balls
Activity Overview:
In this activity, you will hit underarm spin throws along the ground straight back past the bowler, alternating between a full swing and a check swing. The focus is on adapting swing type while maintaining control, balance, and consistent contact through the straight zone. Watch the activity video for a full explanation for completing the task.
